What the checker looks at
The same rules the Rezome editor applies on every edit — the checks a recruiter makes on a first read, written down.
- Contact details
- An email, a phone number, a location and at least one link, so a recruiter can reach you.
- Summary
- A short summary that says what you do, not a paragraph-long objective.
- Experience
- Bullets that start with an action verb and carry a number, dates on every role, no gaps you have not explained.
- Writing quality
- Filler phrases ("responsible for", "worked on"), first person, repeated openers, buzzwords.
- Skills
- Grouped skills with enough of them to match a posting, and nothing vague like "hard-working".
- Education
- A degree with an institution and dates.
- Length
- Roughly one page per five years of experience.

Questions about the resume checker
- Is this resume checker really free, with no sign-up?
- Yes. Upload a file and the score appears on this page; there is no account, no email capture and no paid report behind it. Signing in is only needed if you choose to fix the resume in the Rezome editor, which is also free.
- Is my resume stored when I check it?
- No. The file is read in memory on our server to extract its text, scored, and the result is sent back to your browser; the file and its text are discarded immediately. We keep one record per check — the file format and the score — and nothing else; it is linked to your account if you are signed in, and to no one if you are not. If you continue to the editor, the resume is saved to your account like any other.
- What does the score mean?
- It is a weighted total of rule-based checks a recruiter would make on a first read: contact details present, a tight summary, bullets that start with a verb and carry a number, no filler, a sensible length. Eighty or more is strong; below fifty-five means a few of the big checks are failing. It is a guide to what to fix first, not a prediction of whether you will be shortlisted.
- Does it check ATS compatibility?
- It checks what applicant tracking systems and recruiters both depend on: that the text can be extracted at all, that standard sections are present and findable, and that contact details are machine-readable. It does not imitate any one ATS product, and no public checker can: each company's system is configured differently. A scanned PDF with no selectable text will fail here for the same reason it fails in an ATS.
- Which file types work?
- PDF, Word (.docx) and plain text (.txt), up to 5 MB. Export your resume as a text-based PDF rather than printing to an image. Scanned PDFs cannot be read.
