At an MBA placement the resume is read in under a minute, usually against a dozen others from the same batch. What separates them is the summer internship and the live projects: what you found, what you built and what the company did with it. Common mistakes on MBA fresher resumes
- Describing the internship as the company's work
- "The bank offers home loans across Maharashtra" is the bank's story. Yours is what you did in eight weeks: "Built the tracker for 140 loan files that the branch still uses." One concrete output per bullet.
- Listing every elective as a skill
- Keep the skills your specialisation is hired for and that you used in the internship or a project. Recruiters for finance roles search for Excel, financial modelling and valuation; for HR, recruitment and HR operations. A list of course names is skipped.
- Leaving out the undergraduate degree and marks
- Most campus recruiters in India still filter on Class X, XII and graduation percentages. Keep your B.Com, BBA or B.Tech with its score under the MBA, and add Class XII if the company form asks for it.
- Two pages of college activities
- One line each for the committees and competitions that show something a manager wants (leading a team, winning against other colleges, raising sponsorship). Everything else can go to the interview.
- A generic objective
- Replace "Seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation" with two lines that name your specialisation, your best internship result and the role you want.
