The format below puts all three in the headline and the top of the page, and gives ICU and ward work as numbers: patients per shift, procedures, audit results. Common mistakes on staff nurse resumes
- Registration buried or missing
- Every hospital HR checks the state nursing council registration before reading further. Put "RN RM" in the headline and the council, registration number and year under certifications, not in a line at the end.
- Duties with no unit, ratio or numbers
- "Provided nursing care to patients" says nothing. "Cared for 2 ventilated patients per shift in a 14-bed medical ICU" tells the nursing superintendent your acuity, your ratio and your unit in one line.
- BLS and ACLS listed without a date
- Both lapse after two years and hospitals ask for the current card. Write the year of the latest course, and if it has expired, renew before you apply rather than listing it stale.
- No languages section
- Patients and families are counselled in the local language, and corporate hospitals in metro cities want nurses who can manage in two or three. List each language with an honest level; it is often the tie-breaker between two similar candidates.
- Skills copied from the syllabus
- A list of thirty nursing procedures reads like a textbook index. Keep the ones you do every week in your unit (ventilator care, inotrope titration, central line dressing) and drop the ones from your final-year practicals.
Questions about the staff nurse resume format
- Should a staff nurse resume show the nursing council registration number?
- Yes. Write the council, the registration number and the year under certifications, and "RN RM" in the headline. Hospitals verify it, and a resume without it is usually set aside until HR can ask. If you have registered in a second state, list both.
- How does a staff nurse resume look for a GNM or B.Sc Nursing fresher?
- Lead with the degree, the registration and your clinical postings: the hospital, the units (medicine, surgery, paediatrics, ICU), the weeks spent in each and what you did there. Add BLS if you have it. Keep the same sections and order as the sample, with education above experience.
- Which certifications matter on a staff nurse resume for an ICU job?
- BLS and ACLS, both current, come first. After them, a hospital's own critical-care course, infection-control training and anything NABH-related are worth a line each. Write the issuer and the year; a bare "ACLS" without a date looks expired.
- Should a staff nurse resume for abroad or the Gulf use a different format?
- The content stays the same, but add the licensing steps you have completed (Prometric, DataFlow, NCLEX-RN, IELTS or OET scores with dates), the exact bed count and acuity of each unit, and your total hours of ICU experience, which overseas recruiters ask for.
