Android developer resume format

An Android developer's work is public: installs, ratings and crash-free sessions are on the Play Console, and a hiring manager will open the store listing before the interview, so the resume should give those numbers itself and link to the app. Postings ask for Kotlin and increasingly Jetpack Compose; show both doing something measurable. The sample below is a three-year developer on a mobility app with half a million installs.

Sample Android developer resume, as text

Android Developer · Kotlin, Jetpack Compose

Summary

Android developer with 3 years in Kotlin, building the rider app of a mobility product that has 500,000+ Play Store installs. Owns features from design to release: Jetpack Compose UI, MVVM with coroutines, Room for offline data, and the release and crash-monitoring process. Cut cold start by more than half and raised crash-free sessions to 99.5%. Looking for an Android role on a consumer app team.

Experience

Android Developer · Dhruva Mobility

Bengaluru · Jul 2023 – Present

  • Develop the rider app in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose and MVVM; 500,000+ Play Store installs and a 4.3 rating across 18,000 reviews.
  • Cut cold start from 3.2 s to 1.4 s on entry-level devices by deferring SDK initialisation and shipping a Baseline Profile.
  • Raised crash-free sessions from 97.1% to 99.5% in six months by fixing the top 20 Crashlytics issues and adding structured coroutine exception handling.
  • Built the offline trip-history module with Room and WorkManager sync; saves about 30 MB of mobile data per user a month.

Android Development Intern · PixelForge Studio

Bengaluru · Jan 2023 – Jun 2023

  • Shipped two features in a recipe app with 50,000 installs: a shopping list and a home-screen meal-planner widget.

Common mistakes on Android developer resumes

No installs, ratings or crash numbers
"Developed the rider app" says nothing about scale. "Rider app with 500,000+ installs and a 4.3 rating across 18,000 reviews; raised crash-free sessions from 97.1% to 99.5%" gives three figures any reviewer can check. If your app is small, say so with the real number — 8,000 installs is still an app people use.
No link to the app
Put the Play Store developer page or the app listing in the header links, beside GitHub. A reviewer who can install your app in thirty seconds learns more than from any bullet, and leaving it out suggests the app is not live.
Listing every Jetpack library as a separate skill
Group them: "Android: Jetpack Compose, Room, Retrofit, Hilt, Coroutines & Flow, WorkManager" is one readable line. Thirty library names in a flat list make the section unreadable and hide the ones the posting asked for.
Java-era bullets on a Kotlin resume
If every bullet is about AsyncTask and XML layouts, the resume reads as five years old. Lead with the Kotlin and Compose work, keep one line for maintaining older Java screens, and show the migration if you did one: "Moved 14 screens from XML to Compose."

Questions about the Android developer resume format

Should an Android developer resume list apps that are no longer on the Play Store?
Yes, if they were real work: give the installs or users they had and note that the app was retired or the company closed. A reviewer who searches the store and finds nothing is better served by that note than by a bullet that looks like it describes a live app.
What should an Android developer put in the headline, Kotlin or Java?
Kotlin, if that is what you write today; the sample uses "Android Developer · Kotlin, Jetpack Compose". Keep Java in the skills section — many postings still list it, and most codebases still contain it — but the headline should say what you would be hired to write.
Does an Android developer resume need Flutter or React Native to compete?
Not for native Android roles, which are the majority. Add a cross-platform framework only if you have shipped with it; one Flutter app with installs is evidence, a line in the skills section is not. A keyword the posting mentions that your resume does not is a gap to consider, not a skill you lack.
How should an Android developer with three years show seniority?
Through ownership and the release process rather than the title: features owned end to end, the crash and performance numbers you moved, Play Console releases you ran, tests you added to CI. Those bullets are what separate a three-year developer from a one-year one.
