DevOps engineer resume format
DevOps postings in India list a wall of tools, and a recruiter screens for the exact names, so the skills section must carry them. What separates one resume from the next is whether the bullets show the platform getting better: deploys a day, uptime, the cloud bill, time to detect an incident. The sample below is a six-year engineer who moved from cloud support at a services company to the platform of a lending product.

DevOps Engineer · AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform
Summary
DevOps engineer with 6 years across cloud support at an IT services company and, for the last three, the AWS platform of a lending product with about 1.2 million monthly users. Moved 35 services to Kubernetes with Helm and Argo CD, put all new infrastructure in Terraform, cut the AWS bill by 28% and brought mean time to detect under five minutes. Looking for a senior DevOps or platform engineering role.
Experience
DevOps Engineer · Nimbus Fintech
Gurugram · Jul 2023 – Present
- Run the AWS platform (EKS, RDS, S3, 60+ accounts under Organizations) for a lending product with about 1.2 million monthly users and 99.95% uptime over the last year.
- Moved 35 services from EC2 and hand-run scripts to Kubernetes with Helm charts and Argo CD; deploys went from weekly to 20+ a day, with rollback under two minutes.
- Wrote the Terraform modules for all new infrastructure, about 180 resources; no manual change in production since January 2025.
- Cut the monthly AWS bill by 28% (about ₹9 lakh a month) with right-sizing, Spot node groups and S3 lifecycle rules.
- Set up Prometheus, Grafana and PagerDuty on-call for a team of 40 engineers; mean time to detect fell from 40 minutes to under 5.
Cloud Support Engineer · Ashoka IT Solutions
Noida · Aug 2020 – Jun 2023
- Maintained Jenkins pipelines for 12 client applications and moved them to GitHub Actions, halving the average build time.
- Wrote Ansible playbooks that patch and harden 200+ Linux servers every month, replacing a manual checklist that took two engineers a week.
- Handled L2 incidents on a 24x7 support rota; 95% of tickets resolved within SLA across three years.

Common mistakes on DevOps engineer resumes
- A tools list with no platform numbers
- "Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, Prometheus" is every DevOps resume. "Moved 35 services to Kubernetes; deploys went from weekly to 20+ a day with rollback under two minutes" is yours. Count deploys, uptime, cost, servers and incident times; the tools appear on the way.
- Support work described as if it were platform work
- Running tickets on a rota is honest work and the sample lists it with its SLA figure. Describing it as "managed cloud infrastructure for enterprise clients" invites questions about Terraform and Kubernetes you cannot answer. Say what you did and what you automated out of the rota.
- Certifications with no supporting bullet
- A CKA with no Kubernetes bullet, or a Terraform Associate with no infrastructure-as-code bullet, reads as exam preparation. Keep the certification and add the bullet that shows the skill in production: "Terraform modules for all new infrastructure, about 180 resources."
- Three clouds, three CI systems, four monitoring stacks
- Interviewers go deep on whatever you list. Lead with the cloud you run today, the CI system you maintain and the monitoring you are on-call for; move the rest to a single "Also used" line or drop it. A short list you can defend beats a long one you cannot.
- No mention of cost
- Cloud cost is the number managers understand without translation. If you have cut a bill, say by how much and how: "Cut the AWS bill by 28% with right-sizing, Spot node groups and S3 lifecycle rules." Give the rupee figure too if your employer would not object.
Questions about the DevOps engineer resume format
- How long should a DevOps engineer resume be at five or six years of experience?
- Two pages are fine when the second page is full of results — the sample runs just over one with two roles, six tool groups and three certifications. Keep it to one page if it would otherwise be filled by a longer tools list; a recruiter reads the first page and skims the second.
- Which certifications matter most on a DevOps engineer resume?
- The ones recruiters search by name: AWS Certified Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, and the HashiCorp Terraform Associate. Azure and GCP equivalents when the posting names that cloud. Each should sit beside a bullet that shows the same skill in production.
- Should a DevOps engineer resume say SRE or platform engineer instead?
- Use the words the posting uses, in the headline, if your work matches them: SRE roles ask for on-call, SLOs and incident numbers; platform roles ask for internal tooling other teams use. The job titles your employers gave you stay as they were in the experience section.
- How does a DevOps engineer coming from a services or support background make the resume competitive?
- By showing the automation you built around the support work: pipelines moved, playbooks that replaced checklists, servers patched by script, incidents cut by a monitor you added. Those are platform results even when the title was support. Then a side project with real usage, like a CLI or a Helm chart, shows the skills you were not given at work.
