Business analyst resume format
Business analyst postings in India come from IT services companies and from product companies, and both read for the same three things: can you get requirements out of stakeholders and into stories, can you check the data yourself in SQL, and have you taken a release through UAT. The format below gives each its own bullet. The sample is a four-year analyst who moved from a lending product to an insurance account, in a timeline template.

Sample business analyst resume, as text
Business Analyst · Requirements, SQL, Stakeholder Management
Summary
Business analyst with four years across a lending SaaS product and an IT services account for a general insurer. Turns stakeholder conversations into user stories a team can build from, writes the SQL to check the data behind every requirement, and has run UAT for 9 releases. Looking for a senior business analyst role in a product or services company.
Experience
Business Analyst · Corvex Technologies
Bengaluru · Feb 2024 – Present
- Gather requirements from 12 business stakeholders across underwriting, claims and finance for a policy-administration modernisation; wrote 210+ user stories with acceptance criteria in Jira for a team of 14 across three Scrum teams.
- Mapped 23 as-is claims processes in BPMN and found 6 duplicate approval steps; the to-be flow cut average motor-claim settlement from 11 to 7 days after release.
- Query the policy and claims databases in SQL to validate requirements and size changes; caught a premium-rounding defect affecting 1.8 lakh policies before UAT.
- Plan and run UAT with 25 business users per release (9 releases), keeping a defect log in Jira and sign-off within the sprint 8 times out of 9.
Associate Business Analyst · Finlytic Software
Bengaluru · Jul 2022 – Jan 2024
- Owned requirements for the KYC and bureau-check modules: 60+ user stories, wireframes in Figma and a Confluence functional spec that onboarding engineers still use.
- Built the weekly funnel dashboard in Power BI from SQL extracts (applications, approvals, disbursals) for 40 NBFC clients and the product head.
- Ran gap analysis for 6 client onboardings, turning each client's process into configuration changes rather than custom code and cutting go-live from 10 to 6 weeks.

Common mistakes on business analyst resumes
- "Gathered requirements" as the whole bullet
- Say from whom, how many and what they became. "Gathered requirements from stakeholders" becomes "Gathered requirements from 12 stakeholders across underwriting and claims; wrote 210 user stories with acceptance criteria for three Scrum teams."
- SQL in skills, nowhere in experience
- A BA who can query is worth more, and a hiring manager will test it. Give SQL a bullet with what it found: a defect caught before UAT, a volume sized, a dashboard fed from your own extracts.
- No business outcome after the release
- Requirements are a means. Follow the delivery with what changed for the business — settlement days, go-live weeks, approval steps removed — even approximately. It is the difference between a scribe and an analyst.
- Listing every artefact name from the BABOK
- BRD, FRD, SRS, RTM, use cases, swimlanes: name only the ones you actually produced on a project, and say which project. A long list of document types reads as a course certificate, not experience.
- Hiding the domain
- Insurance, lending, retail, healthcare — the domain is often the filter. Put it in the company description and the summary, and use its vocabulary (claims, disbursals, SKUs) in the bullets so a domain search finds you.
Questions about the business analyst resume format
- What skills does a business analyst resume need for IT services jobs?
- Requirements gathering and user stories, a tool pair like Jira and Confluence, SQL, UAT, and one domain named clearly. Add Power BI or Excel if you build reports and Figma or Visio if you wireframe or map processes. Group them so the posting's keywords line up at a glance.
- How is a business analyst resume different from a data analyst one?
- A data analyst's bullets end in a finding and a decision; a business analyst's end in a requirement delivered and what the business could then do. Both should show SQL. If you have done both, lead with the kind of role you want and keep the other's bullets brief — this site has a separate data analyst format.
- Does a business analyst resume need a certification like ECBA or CBAP?
- Not to be read, but it helps at the filter stage. ECBA suits the first few years and CBAP once you cross five, and services companies list them in postings more than product companies do. Put it after education; the project bullets still have to carry the interview.
- How many pages should a business analyst resume be at four years?
- One. Two roles with three or four bullets each, grouped skills, a degree and two certifications fit the timeline template in the sample without crowding. Senior analysts with several accounts and domains can go to two pages; keep the second page for older roles.
