A fresh civil engineer is hired for a site, and the builder or contractor reading the resume wants to know whether you have been on one: what you checked, measured and tested, and whether you will move to where the next project is. CAD and STAAD.Pro come second, and a project with real loads and codes behind it counts for more than a list of software. - Prepared quantity take-offs for brickwork and plastering of one floor in Excel and reconciled them against the contractor's bill, finding a 4% over-claim.

Projects
Analysis and design of a G+3 hostel building
Final-year project. Modelled a 48-room RCC hostel block in STAAD.Pro, with wind and seismic loads for Zone III, and designed beams, columns and footings to IS 456 and IS 1893. The optimised column grid used 6% less steel than the first manual design. Prepared the structural drawings in AutoCAD and a bill of quantities in Excel. Team of three; I owned the STAAD model and the column design.
Rice husk ash as a partial cement replacement in M25 concrete
Mini project. Cast and tested 36 cubes with 0%, 10%, 15% and 20% replacement; 10% replacement gave a 28-day strength within 3% of the control mix at a lower material cost. Presented at the department's project exhibition.

Common mistakes on civil engineer fresher resumes
- A site internship written as a site visit
- "Observed construction activities at a residential site" tells the reader you watched. Say what you checked and how often: "Checked BBS and reinforcement for 24 columns before each pour; cast and tested 60+ cubes."
- STAAD.Pro with no structure behind it
- Software named in the skills list and nowhere else is assumed to be a two-day course. Put the building you modelled in a project: the storeys, the loads, the codes you designed to, and one number that came out of it.
- Leaving out estimation and billing
- Most fresher site jobs involve quantities and bills before design. If you have prepared a take-off, a BBS or reconciled a contractor's bill, say so in a bullet; it is the skill a small builder most wants from a trainee.
- Not saying you will relocate
- Civil jobs are where the project is, and a recruiter will skip a Vijayawada address for a Hyderabad site unless the resume says otherwise. One clause in the summary, "willing to relocate to any site in South India", settles it.
- A two-page CV for one internship
- A fresher's resume is one page. Cut the list of workshops and NSS camps, keep the survey camp as experience only if you did real survey work there, and let the declaration close the page.

- One page, single column: name and contact details, a short summary that states the role and your willingness to relocate, education with CGPA, skills grouped as design and site, the internship with numbers, the final-year project with its codes and result, certifications and a declaration. The internship sits above projects when it was on a real site.
- Should a civil engineer fresher resume mention willingness to relocate?
- Yes, in the summary. Site engineer and planning roles are posted to wherever the project is, and construction firms shortlist candidates who will go there. If you can only work in one city, say that instead, so you are considered for the right openings and not dropped later.
- Which software should a civil engineer fresher resume list?
- AutoCAD for drafting, one analysis tool you have designed a structure in (STAAD.Pro or ETABS), and Excel, which every site office runs on. Add Revit, Primavera or MS Project only if you have used them on a project. A long list of unused software is the first thing an interviewer tests.
