Projects
Lightweight battery enclosure for an electric two-wheeler
Final-year project. Modelled the enclosure in SolidWorks and ran static and drop-load analysis in ANSYS; moving from a mild-steel box to a ribbed aluminium design cut the simulated mass by 18% (3.2 kg to 2.6 kg) at the same deflection limit. Fabricated the prototype in the college workshop and tested it on a vibration table. Team of four; I owned the CAD model and the analysis.
Welding fixture for a two-wheeler footrest bracket
Designed and drew a locating-and-clamping fixture in AutoCAD during my internship so two brackets could be tacked in one setup. Setup time per pair fell from about 11 minutes to 4, and the fixture has been in use on the line since August 2024.

Common mistakes on mechanical engineer fresher resumes
- Listing every CAD package you have opened
- CATIA, Creo, NX, ANSYS and HyperMesh in one line invites a test in the one you know least. Keep the tools you have modelled a real part in, and name the part in a project so the interviewer can ask about it.
- Internship bullets that describe the plant
- "The company manufactures 2 lakh brackets a month" is the company's line. Yours is what you did in four weeks: "Recorded cycle times for 6 stations and proposed a fixture that removed one setup."
- A final-year project with no result
- "Design and analysis of a battery enclosure" is a title. Say the tool, the target and the number: modelled in SolidWorks, analysed in ANSYS, 18% lighter at the same deflection, prototype fabricated and tested.
- Not saying whether you want core or IT
- A mechanical graduate applying to both ends up with a summary that fits neither. Decide for each application: a core resume leads with CAD and the plant internship; an IT one leads with Python and a coding project.
- Two pages of workshops and symposiums
- A one-day workshop on 3D printing or a paper presented at a college symposium does not need its own entry. One page: education, skills, projects, internship, certifications and the declaration most core companies' forms expect.

- One page, single column: name and contact details, a three-line summary, education with CGPA, skills grouped as design and manufacturing, the final-year project with its result, the internship with bullets, certifications and a declaration. Projects sit above the internship because for most graduates they are the stronger evidence.
- Should a mechanical engineer fresher resume include a GATE score?
- Yes if it is good enough to use: a qualifying GATE score is a filter for PSU recruitment and a plus for core companies, so put it in certifications with the year and the score. If you did not qualify, leave GATE out; nobody expects it on a private-sector application.
- Which software should a mechanical engineer fresher resume list?
- One 2D tool (AutoCAD), one or two 3D modellers you have made real parts in (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, Fusion 360) and an analysis tool if a project used it (ANSYS).
